Tokat's digital trade potential
Tokat is a fertile agricultural province at the crossing between the Black Sea and Central Anatolia; it is strong in sugar beet, tobacco, grapes and tomatoes and ranks high in Türkiye's food sector. Agriculture is the traditional base of the provincial economy and the direct source of its food industry.
Tokat does not only grow crops, it also makes the machinery of farming: agricultural machinery manufacturing is an important line in its organised industrial zones (OSB). That gives the city an industrial identity, able to supply both the product and the machine that works it.
The city's unique cultural asset is the Tokat yazma: this printing craft, roughly six hundred years old and printed by hand with wooden blocks, is a registered geographical value. With the right brand and visual e-commerce, yazma is a distinctive product that can be sold at high value to collectors and visitors alike.
Gastronomy is a strong identity: Tokat kebabı and a rich regional cuisine, together with registered products, provide solid ground for gastronomy tourism and regional food brands. The Narince grape and vine leaves are parts of this culinary culture that suit export.
Industry is diversifying: textiles and garment manufacturing, wood processing and stone and clay products (brick and tile) are the province's other production lines. Natural assets such as the Ballıca Cave offer additional tourism potential.
Tokat's opportunity is to bring its agri-food strength, its industrial production and its unique craft together online: taking Narince and tomato products into brands, agricultural machinery into B2B export, and Tokat yazma into visual e-commerce. Production and culture are strong; what is missing is digital visibility and brand.
