Isparta's digital trade potential
Isparta is the world's most important rose production centre; a very large share of global rose oil output comes from this city. Rose oil, rose water and rose concrete are high-value raw materials sought by the perfume and cosmetics industries, and that gives Isparta a 'scent' economy with few equals anywhere.
Alongside roses, lavender is a rising asset: lavender fields such as those at Kuyucak create both a crop and a powerful visual tourism draw. Natural cosmetics, soaps and essences based on rose and lavender are extremely well suited to branding and higher-margin e-commerce.
In handicrafts, the Isparta carpet is a long-established name; finely woven hand-made carpets carry both cultural and commercial value. Furniture and chipboard are among the city's strong manufacturing arms, and the region also quarries marble and natural stone.
Farming is varied and suited to branded sales: the Isparta apple carries a geographical indication and, with extensive cold storage capacity, can be supplied to the market all year round. Cherries, rose jam and regional products complete this rich agricultural range; the city holds more than twenty geographical indications.
The city's exports have been rising recently, with marble, furniture and rose products among the main items. Its proximity to the lakes region and its lavender fields also offer strong potential for nature and photography tourism.
Isparta's contradiction is this: it has products of world value, yet rose oil is often exported raw, in bulk and unbranded, and the added value stays with the perfume houses. A proper brand, multilingual e-commerce and content set-up can sell the roses, the lavender and the carpets directly to consumers and to industry, branded and with the margin kept.
