Karaman's digital trade potential
Karaman is known as Türkiye's base for biscuits, chocolate, wafers and cake; its organised industrial zone (OSB) was set up almost entirely around biscuit factories and has since grown to hundreds of companies. A significant share of the country's biscuit and confectionery output comes from this city alone.
The export strength of the sector is striking: most of Karaman's exports consist of biscuits, chocolate, wafers and cake, and these products are sold to hundreds of countries across five continents. The city is strong both with its own brands and in private label production for retail chains abroad.
Food production also feeds a machinery ecosystem: food and biscuit production machinery is manufactured in Karaman as well. In other words, the city is an integrated food industry centre able to offer both the product and the line that makes it.
Grain and agriculture form a strong base: known as the grain store of Anatolia, Karaman is strong in flour, bulgur and wheat, with chickpeas and potatoes also important crops. This raw material base feeds the food industry directly.
Apples are another of the city's names: with extensive cold storage capacity, Karaman can supply apples to the market all year round. That creates conditions suited to branded, regular sales both at home and for export.
Karaman's strength lies in production and in an appetite for export; what is often missing is international digital visibility and brand. A private label showcase and multilingual B2B set-up for biscuit and food companies, technical references for machinery makers, and brand and e-commerce for their own labels can take this strong production into wider and more profitable markets.
