Bolu's digital trade potential
Bolu sits exactly between İstanbul and Ankara and, through its closeness to both metropolises, is one of the strongest addresses for four-season tourism. Abant and Yedigöller generate heavy demand for nature tourism and Kartalkaya for winter sports; the city is a centre for weekend breaks and seasonal tourism.
Bolu's most distinctive asset is gastronomy: Mengen is known as Türkiye's land of chefs, and the city's cookery heritage is a national brand. That gives restaurants and hotels, as well as gastronomy tourism and regional product brands, a rare story and a genuine draw.
Poultry and white meat form the industrial backbone: Bolu holds a significant share of Türkiye's poultry meat production and a substantial part of what it produces is exported. That creates a strong B2B export field built around capacity and food safety.
Manufacturing is varied: Gerede is a long-established specialist centre in leather, while furniture and forest products along with glass and metal processing are strong arms in the organised industrial zones (OSB). The city carries both tourism and industry at once.
Geographical indications add to that wealth: Bolu holds dozens of registered regional products, from kesin to corn bread. Combined with gastronomy tourism, these products carry strong potential for branded e-commerce.
Bolu's opportunity is to turn its heavy visitor flow and its strong manufacturing into value online: hotels leave much of their occupancy to the platforms, the cookery heritage and regional products are not told well enough online, and white meat and leather could be far more visible in international B2B. With the right set-up, tourism and manufacturing can grow together.
