Osmaniye's digital trade potential
Osmaniye is Türkiye's peanut capital; the very large majority of the country's peanut growing, processing and marketing passes through this city. The 'Osmaniye Peanut', protected by a geographical indication and registered with the European Union, is the city's signature product on the world stage; hundreds of businesses and thousands of families make their living from it.
The peanut is not a simple agricultural commodity but a strong brand and added-value opportunity: beyond raw sales, processed goods such as roasted peanuts, peanut butter and nut mixes can be sold under a brand, direct to consumers and into export. That is the most concrete way of keeping the income with the producer.
The city's second strong arm is iron and steel: a large number of iron and steel and rolling mill businesses operate in the Osmaniye Organised Industrial Zone. The cluster is based largely on scrap and processing rather than ore, producing sections, rebar and steel products.
Osmaniye's steel is built on a different model from the country's other steel centres: a rolling mill cluster based in the OSB rather than ore-based integrated plants. That structure is flexible but exposed to raw material and price swings; digital visibility and new markets can give it room to move.
Textiles and agriculture round out the provincial economy; textile businesses operate in the OSB while a range of crops besides peanuts is grown in the countryside. The city offers a balanced structure that holds food and industrial production side by side.
Osmaniye's opportunity is to turn its near-monopoly in peanuts into a brand online: to sell the registered 'Osmaniye Peanut' as a processed, branded product direct to consumers and into export, and to make the steel cluster far more visible in regional and domestic B2B. The production strength is beyond question; what is missing is brand and digital visibility.
