Yozgat's digital trade potential
Yozgat is one of Central Anatolia's fertile grain and pulses stores: it ranks first in Türkiye for green lentil production and is among the country's leading provinces for chickpeas. That gives the city a strong pulses and agriculture identity and a broad product base that is open to branding.
The agriculture-based food industry is strong: hundreds of flour, bread and food businesses, along with the sugar factories in Sorgun and Boğazlıyan, form the city's industrial backbone. Sugar beet and grain are the raw material for that industry.
Yozgat holds a rare tourism asset: the Sarıkaya Roman Bath, an ancient structure on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List. That makes the city one of the few addresses where historic and thermal tourism meet, and a strong card for health tourism.
Gastronomy and regional produce are rich: geographical-indication flavours such as Yozgat testi (clay pot) kebab, çanak cheese, arabaşı and parmak çöreği are part of the city's cultural and commercial value. These products suit gastronomy tourism and branded e-commerce.
A new field is developing as well: Yozgat is positioning itself as a centre for controlled hemp production, with higher-value areas such as medical products, textile raw material and bioplastics in view. Livestock farming is also a traditional part of the regional economy.
Yozgat's opportunity is to turn its agricultural and thermal strength into value online: taking green lentils, first in Türkiye, into a brand and e-export; the sugar and flour industry into B2B; Sarıkaya's combination of history and thermal water into multilingual tourism marketing; and regional flavours into brands. Production and value are strong; what is missing is digital visibility and brand.
