Kırıkkale's digital trade potential
Kırıkkale is the historic base of Türkiye's defence industry: the city hosts the weapons, heavy weapons and steel, ammunition and brass factories of MKE (Mechanical and Chemical Industry Corporation), and the country's first specialised weapons OSB was established here. That gives the city a deep-rooted defence identity at scale.
Kırıkkale's defence base differs from the newer defence investments in other provinces: it was founded by the state, carries decades of production tradition and has a supply chain that grew up around it. For those supplier companies, this is a particular kind of B2B field, one that demands high trust and corporate credibility.
The city's second heavy arm is energy: the Central Anatolian refinery sits in Kırıkkale, processing millions of tonnes of product a year and feeding the region's energy needs. Plastics and petrochemical-based production is developing around the refinery as well.
Machinery and farm equipment form a strong export line: agricultural machinery and equipment made in Kırıkkale are sold abroad. Logistical proximity to Ankara gives that production and B2B supply an added advantage.
Agriculture and food complete the provincial economy: geographical-indication products such as Kılıçlar onions and Hasandede grapes are assets suited to branding, and feed and food processing are part of the production base.
Kırıkkale's opportunity is to bring its heavy industry and machinery strength to the right counterpart online: taking the defence supply chain into a digital presence built on corporate credibility, farm machinery into multilingual B2B export, and food into brands. Production capability is high; what is missing is digital visibility and the right positioning.
