In most firms operating solar (GES) or wind (RES) plants, delivering EPC installations or managing energy efficiency in an organised industrial zone (OSB), monitoring, meter and market data runs in separate silos. ISO 50001 is the international standard that defines the requirements of an energy management system, so organisations can measure and improve their energy performance systematically. The standard expects consumption to be measured, a baseline to be set and improvement to be demonstrated. Certification is granted by an accredited certification body through an audit; software does not provide the certificate, but it makes it easier to keep the measurement and improvement records the audit asks for in good order.
