Carpet + Instagram Shopping: common problems
- Our carpet photographs are taken on a mobile phone and do not look luxurious
- There are likes on Instagram but no sales (no Shopping catalogue)
- We do not make Reels, while competitors' videos get far more views
Carpet + Instagram Shopping: why it works differently
Carpet is one of the hardest products to convey on a screen. The buyer cannot touch the weave, cannot feel the pile height and cannot judge how the colour will look in the light of their own living room. The decision is rarely made by one person either; size, room layout and how it sits with the furniture are all discussed, and the process can stretch over days or even weeks. That is why the buying journey for a carpet starts not with a product list but with a picture of a room. People first decide they want a room like that, and only then ask about the product. Instagram fits this behaviour exactly: discovery comes first, and the product tag sits inside the discovery. Without a catalogue, every bit of interest turns into a price question and piles up on the sales team, which both slows replies and lets interest cool.
The second difficulty is technical. A single carpet design comes in many sizes and colours; if the catalogue does not set these variants up correctly, users land on the wrong product from a tag or see an option that is out of stock. Keeping the product feed in sync with the store system is therefore not a nice-to-have but a precondition for selling. Light and perspective can also make a carpet's colour look different from reality, and a significant share of returns and dissatisfaction comes from this. Using studio and lifestyle photography together conveys colour more accurately and shows the product to scale in a real room; neither type of shot replaces the other.
In practice, the work revolves around a production calendar. At the start of each month we plan which collection will be shot, which rooms will be styled and which content goes to Reels; shooting, editing and publishing are tied to that calendar. On Reels, lookbook, room styling and preview formats are rotated, because a single format quickly starts to feel repetitive. Pinterest works on a different timescale: people usually research there before renovating or moving, and content stays visible for a long time. Influencer collaborations show the product in the creator's own home, so they answer the scale and texture question naturally and fill the gap a studio shot leaves. The calendar is also aligned with stock and collection launch dates.
Carpet + Instagram Shopping: what the package delivers
Scope in writing, process step by step, results reported. The fee depends on scope, number of channels and, for ads, the ad budget; a written proposal follows the first call.
- 01 Instagram Shopping catalogue set-up (product feed)
- 02 15+ professional product shoots a month (studio and lifestyle)
- 03 3-4 Reels a week (lookbook, room styling, AR preview)
- 04 Pinterest boards and home decor influencer collaborations
- 05 Story Shopping and a Highlight category system
| Scope item | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Instagram Shopping catalogue set-up (product feed) | Introduces products to the platform with their price, variants and stock. Tagging, collections and the shop tab are built on this record; without a sound feed, product tags do not work. |
| 15+ professional product shots a month (studio and lifestyle) | Studio shots convey colour and weave accurately; lifestyle shots show how the product looks in a room. Together they answer the buyer's questions about scale and colour visually. |
| 3-4 Reels a week (lookbook, room styling, AR preview) | The main source of organic reach on Explore. Rotating formats delays content fatigue and opens the same collection up to different interests. |
| Pinterest boards and home decor influencer collaborations | Pinterest spreads research traffic from people planning a renovation or a move over the long term; influencer content shows the product in a real home and reduces objections about scale and texture. |
| Story Shopping and a Highlights category system | Makes daily Stories shoppable. Highlights build a permanent shop window by room type or collection, so the profile works like a catalogue people can browse. |
The tools behind the Carpet + Instagram Shopping package
| Platform | Its role in this package |
|---|---|
| Instagram Business + Shopping | The main sales surface, where product-tagged posts, the shop tab and Story Shopping are published. |
| Pinterest Business | Brings long-lived discovery traffic; the board structure links room- and style-based research to the product page. |
| Facebook Catalog Manager | The hub that holds product, variant and stock data; tags on the Instagram side draw on the records here. |
| Shopify to Instagram catalogue feed | Keeps the store and the catalogue in sync, so price and stock changes are reflected without manual updates. |
Carpet + Instagram Shopping: frequently asked questions
Is photography included in the service?
Yes. Product photography is part of the scope; where the studio and lifestyle shoots take place, and who does them, is confirmed in the first call. 15-20 products are shot a month; larger catalogues need extra scope.
How does the AR (augmented reality) preview work?
On Shopify stores, once a 3D model of the product is uploaded, customers can see the rug in their own room through their phone camera (AR Quick Look on iOS, Scene Viewer on Android). Preparing 3D models is a separate piece of work, with its scope and fee agreed in the first call.
How does the influencer budget work?
Micro-influencers (10-50K) usually work on barter (a carpet in exchange for content). Larger influencers require a separate sponsored campaign budget.
Why does Pinterest matter?
Pinterest is a visual search channel widely used by people looking for home decor ideas; for carpet brands selling abroad it can bring traffic from long-tail searches such as "Berber rug" or "Scandinavian rug". We measure its effect through traffic and sales from Pinterest.
How do you tag products on Instagram?
To tag products on Instagram, the products are first defined in a catalogue with their price, variants and stock, and Instagram Shopping is connected to that catalogue; product tags are then added when sharing posts, Stories and Reels. In carpets, a single design comes in many sizes and colours, so if variants are not set up correctly the user lands on the wrong product from the tag. That is why we set up the catalogue feed in sync with your store system, so price and stock changes are reflected without manual updates.
What determines the cost?
The fee depends on the number of products shot each month, the number of Reels, the size of the catalogue and the scope of influencer and Pinterest work. 3D models for AR preview and ad spend are planned separately.
What do you need from us?
Product samples or showroom access for shoots, size, colour and material details for each product, access to your Instagram and Facebook Business accounts, and access to the product catalogue in your store platform.
