Detailed definition
A backlink is a link from another site to your page; for Google it is a signal that other sources cite your content. Natural links from trustworthy, relevant sites in your sector are the most valuable. Low-quality or paid links are usually ignored; the real risk is wasted budget and a breach of Google's link spam policy. Ways to earn links: digital PR (press releases, trade media), listings in sector directories, content worth citing and partner sites.
Examples
- One relevant link from a respected publication in your sector is usually worth more than many links from unrelated sites.
