Sound familiar?

Textiles + E-Export: common problems

  • You want to open up to overseas markets but do not know where to start
  • You opened an Amazon store, but the listings and advertising fell short and you got lost
  • B2B buyers still ring you asking for a catalogue; there is no online B2B

Textiles + E-Export: why it works differently

A textile manufacturer's export sales usually depend on the trade fair calendar, a few agents and a limited number of buyers the company has worked with for years. This structure causes no trouble on the production side, but demand coming through a single channel weakens bargaining power and price control. E-export changes the picture by putting the manufacturer in direct contact with small and medium-sized buyers abroad. The hard part lies in the product itself: the hand feel of a fabric, its weight, shade and dimensions cannot be felt on a screen. That is why product data, not advertising, sits at the centre of e-export work. Until composition, weight, width, colour code and care information are complete and consistent, no sales channel works properly and the return rate cannot be controlled.

In this package, two different types of buyer work on the same infrastructure. A retail buyer sees the product and buys a single item; a wholesaler wants to discuss minimum order quantities, tiered price lists, samples and payment terms. Trying to handle both on the same page usually loses both. That is why the store is designed for the retail flow, and the B2B portal separately for account balances, minimum order rules and customer-specific prices. Language works the same way: German buyers are more sensitive to measurements and documentation, while Arabic- and Russian-speaking buyers respond more to visual presentation and speed of communication. Translation follows the market's buying habits, not word-for-word equivalents.

Marketplaces and your own store are not alternatives but channels that feed one another. On Amazon, listing quality and stock continuity are decisive; on Alibaba, how fast you reply to buyer questions and how credible the company profile looks; on Etsy, the story of the craftsmanship and niche keywords. Each runs on its own set of rules, so copying one product description across four channels does not work. On the advertising side, international Google Ads and Meta Ads are set up separately by country and language, and performance is tracked not on total spend but by channel ROAS, that is, revenue divided by ad spend. Customs, shipping and returns costs are kept inside this calculation too.

What each item in the scope is for
Scope itemWhat it is for
Multilingual e-commerce site (Shopify/WooCommerce, EN/DE/AR/RU)The brand's main store, selling without commission in four languages and in each market's currency; it lets you bring the awareness built on marketplaces back to your own channel.
B2B portal (account balances, MOQ, price lists, ERP integration)Lets wholesale buyers see their own balance, their own price list and minimum order rules, and place orders; the ERP connection removes the work of updating stock and prices by hand.
Amazon UK/DE/US store launch and listing optimisationGives access to ready buyer traffic in three large marketplaces; listing optimisation makes sure the product is found under the right terms and looks comparable with competing listings.
Etsy and Alibaba ecosystem operationsEtsy meets demand for craftsmanship and niche retail, while Alibaba handles wholesale buyer enquiries; the same product portfolio reaches two different types of buyer.
International Google Ads and Meta Ads (geo-targeted)Runs ads by country, language and city to bring demand to the store and the B2B portal; spend is assessed by channel ROAS, that is, revenue divided by ad spend.

Frequently asked questions

Textiles + E-Export: frequently asked questions

Which market should we start with?

It depends on product type, production capacity and budget. For mainstream textiles, Amazon DE/UK and Trendyol International (the cross-border arm of a large Turkish marketplace); for niche textiles, Etsy; for B2B, Alibaba.

What is the minimum set of languages for a multilingual site?

EN plus the language of your target market (DE/FR/AR/RU). Professional translator, native editor and SEO-ready copy — not just Google Translate.

How do we show prices to B2B customers?

Through a customer account login with its own price list. MOQ rules, payment terms and pricing by customer segment. Standard B2B portal functionality.

Do you help with international shipping and customs?

On the shipping side we set up store integrations with carriers such as Aras Global, UPS and DHL; you sign the carrier agreement. For customs declarations and regulations we recommend working with your own customs broker, and we design the shipping flow together with them.

What is micro-export?

Micro-export is exporting goods sold to buyers abroad through e-commerce, below set value and weight limits, by post or express courier under an Electronic Commerce Customs Declaration (ETGB) instead of a standard customs declaration. For a textile manufacturer, it is the customs side of selling directly to retail buyers through a multilingual store and marketplaces such as Amazon and Etsy; large wholesale orders move through the B2B portal in a separate flow. We keep shipping, customs and returns costs inside the ROAS calculation by channel, and design the shipping flow together with your customs broker.

How does a textile company sell on Alibaba?

A textile company sells on Alibaba by collecting enquiries from wholesale buyers, along with sample and bulk order requests, through its company profile and product showcase. What decides results on this channel is how quickly you reply to buyer questions and how credible the company profile looks; the product data also needs complete composition, weight, width, colour code and care information. We set up Alibaba as one of several channels, alongside Amazon, Etsy and your own store, that feed one another, and we do not copy the same description across all four.

What determines the cost?

The fee depends on the number of target markets and languages, the number of channels opened (your own store, Amazon, Etsy, Alibaba, a B2B portal), the number of products and the scope of ad management. Set-up and monthly management are separate items; we send a written proposal after the first call.

What do you need from us?

Product data (composition, weight, width, care), product images or samples to photograph, your target market priorities, contact details for the accountant and customs broker who handle your exports and invoicing, and company documents for marketplace accounts.
