Detailed definition
You upload your existing customer list (with email addresses hashed) to Meta, and the platform builds a pool of users who resemble it. A 1% lookalike is the closest match (a small pool); 5-10% is broader but less similar. It is one of the methods that can work well for reaching cold audiences in most accounts. In Google Ads, similar segments have been replaced by audience signals and optimised targeting; check the current position in Google Ads Help.
Examples
- Building a 1% lookalike from a list of 500 customers gives a much larger audience in the same country that still resembles the list.
