Detailed definition
GEO is the extension of classic SEO into the age of artificial intelligence. Classic SEO targets the top positions in Google's search results; GEO makes sure the brand is mentioned in the answers AI engines give to user questions. The core components of GEO: an llms.txt file, structured data (Schema.org), question-and-answer formatted content, AI crawler permissions (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and similar in robots.txt) and clear definition pages (What is X?). Since 2024, 42% of new-generation users have turned directly to AI engines to look information up — which is why GEO has been added alongside classic SEO.
Examples
- PAN Innovation's /llms.txt file is a brief that presents the brand's structure to AI engines in Markdown format.
- Your brand being named when ChatGPT is asked "the best growth partner in Türkiye" is the outcome of GEO.
